Morning sickness

Symptoms and duration

During early pregnancy, nausea and vomiting are common. Around half of all pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting, and around three in 10 experience just nausea.

Symptoms usually begin before week nine but improve as the pregnancy progresses and in 90 per cent of cases, disappear completely by the third month of pregnancy. However, about one in ten continues to feel sick after week twenty.

The term 'morning sickness' is also misleading. It can affect you at any time of the day or night, and some women feel sick all day long.
